Given that it weighs little more than a small hatch, the Legacy is a remarkably big car, and the spacious boot found favour with our practicality judges.
It’s also deceptively quick. Our driving judges found the Legacy lacking in low-down pull, but when worked hard through the gears, it proved to be the quickest car in this group.
The Legacy scored solid marks for stability, too, and our judges also praised its ride comfort.
Even so, the hill-start test was a bit of a struggle, and we had to call on the Legacy’s low-ratio gear settings to get things moving.
Fuel economy is another concern, with 31.4mpg on the combined cycle. Expect that to drop considerably when towing.
