The Skoda Yeti has been updated for 2014, with the range split between the standard Yeti and the more rugged-looking Yeti Outdoor.
Either way, the Yeti is still one of the best crossovers to drive, with precise steering and nimble handling. In everyday driving the ride feels a little firm, but that can bode well for stability when towing.
That’s certainly the case with the Yeti, which tackled the lane-change as well as any car of similar kerbweight. Even at high speed, the Skoda changed direction urgently without being dragged off course by the caravan.
At 60mph the Yeti felt secure, and the Al-Ko ATC sensors picked up little movement when slowing down from motorway speeds.
While stability is a given, the 1.6-litre diesel had its work cut out pulling both car and caravan. The Yeti needed 22.3 seconds to go from 30-60mph, and the engine was noisy when working hard.
Stopping is more the Skoda’s forte, taking just 10.3m to come to a halt from 30mph.
Our practicality testers found room for every item of holiday luggage bar one, and noted that the handbook has all the towing-related information an owner might look for.
A keen price, respectable fuel economy and second place overall in the 2013 JD Power Customer Satisfaction Survey make the Yeti a very sensible purchase.
