The MG ZS starts with one arm tied behind its back, thanks to a rock-bottom towing limit. Being restricted to towing just 500kg makes it suitable for trailer tents rather than lightweight vans.
It does do a reasonable job of towing a lightweight trailer. At high speeds, the MG is stable, rarely requiring any steering correction even when tested at above the legal limit.
However, even when pulling so little weight, the ZS is slow, taking 17.1 seconds to go from 30-60mph. The DCT gearbox doesn’t help, often seeming to be in the wrong gear.
