Most drivers found the Vauxhall Antara stable at a steady 60mph, though in crosswinds some steering correction was needed. However, Al-Ko ATC data showed the van moving around if the driver decelerated suddenly at speed.
The Antara wasn’t as controlled as it should have been in the lane-change test, either, with the caravan pushing and pulling at the back of the car. The manoeuvre couldn’t be completed on the fastest run through the cones.
Electronic parking brakes usually help on hill starts, but more than one judge noticed that the Antara’s released too early, allowing the outfit to roll back. Vauxhall says the puncture repair kit shouldn’t be used when towing, but this isn’t in the handbook.
