Some estate cars go all out for practicality. Some try to juggle utility with a sense of style. The Peugeot 407 SW is definitely one of the latter.
While they might attract envious glances from your neighbours, those good looks didn’t do the Peugeot any favours with our practicality judges. The 430 litres of space with the seats in place isn’t enough to tackle our full load of holiday luggage.
The SW made up some lost ground on the test track, sprinting from 30-60mph in just 12.7 seconds. All wasn’t quite so well, however, during our lane-change manoeuvre: the electronic stability programme had to intervene at surprisingly low speed.
The wide base of the front passenger seat hampered handbrake operation, although the SW did pull well up the hill.
Watch out for poor resale values: the Peugeot retains only around 34% of its original price after three years.
