For a petrol, the GLC’s engine has plenty of mid-range muscle as well as top-end punch. The 30-60mph time of 9.3 seconds means overtaking dawdlers will be stress-free.
At 60mph, it felt secure, but not quite as unshakeable as the BMW 5 Series Touring or Volvo V60 Cross Country.
In the lane-change test, the GLC took a while to settle when changing direction, and the back of the car was pulled out of line on the fastest run.
Our practicality testers didn’t come close to finding room for a full load.
