In most respects, the CX-5 is an impressive tow car. Certainly the engine is more than up to the job of pulling any sensibly matched caravan, with vigour.
The CX-5 took a no-nonsense approach to the lane-change test, with little roll for an SUV and direct and accurate steering.
However, windy conditions seemed to trouble the CX-5 more than some rivals; although in still air, the Mazda felt stable and in control.
The CX-5 lost marks in the practicality judging. A poor handbook and towbar fitting were among the culprits.
