The Honda CR-V is a capable family SUV, but a so-so tow car. It takes a lot of revs to wake up the petrol engine.
That shortage of pulling power is noticeable on a hill start. The e-brake held car and van still on the 1-in-6 slope, but it took a lot of revs to pull up the hill and there was a burning smell from the clutch.
It handled the emergency manoeuvres, staying controlled in the lane-change test and stopping in 11.1m from 30mph.
